Discover all benefitsFumal, the starting point of the route, is beautifully situated in the Mehaigne Valley. You can easily park on the grounds of the former Fumal train station. The ride begins directly with the climb to Côte de Marneffe, where you ascend from the river valley. Finally, you descend through the village of Oteppe into the Burdinale Valley. After that, you leave the Burdinale Valley with a small climb to the Haspengouw Plateau. Finally, you ride through a beautiful setting down the hanging valley of the Loyisse River into the Maas valley (unfortunately over moderately poor road surface).
After crossing the Maas at Sclayn, a wonderful, flowing ascent takes you to Bonneville, in the landscape known as Condroz. After that, you will encounter the steep Côte du Haut-Bois (up to 16%) for the bikes, the beautiful hamlet of Latinne (with a castle) and a few more climbs (like Côte de Solières) and descents with sometimes moderate to poor road surface. You ride from Ben-Ahin (known from the Waalse Pijl) down to the Maas valley and then cycle about 6 kilometers along the bike path on the southern bank of the Maas towards Andenne.
In Andenne, you cross the Maas again, ride 1 kilometer along busier roads, but after that, you come back to quieter roads over the steep Côte de Seilles. Via Lamalle, you continue into the Maas valley until Bas-Oha, a short steep climb (11%) leads you back out of the Maas valley and then down into the Mehaigne Valley. Over the one-and-a-half-kilometer steep ascent from the Abbey of Val-Notre-Dame (max. 15%, long sections 11-13%), you return to the French Haspengouw (Hesbaye). A steep descent finally brings you back to Fumal.
The roads in Haspengouw (north of the Maas) are mostly of good quality (except for the road in the Loyisse valley). The roads south of the Maas (in Condroz) in this area are of varying quality with sometimes moderate to poor road surface (especially be careful when descending from the Col de la Flîme (the road from Perwez to Andenne)!). However, the beautiful surroundings (diverse forests and meadows in a hilly landscape with some lovely villages) and the quiet roads make up for that.
