Description by the author

Kayak route between Tubize and Halle.

This kayak route is a descent of the Zenne, starting from Tubize. The starting point is behind the village's fire station. You can get in by going down a ladder next to the bridge to a small platform. Then you start the descent of the Zenne towards Halle. It begins immediately with a significant current, after which you enter calmer waters. There is a unique atmosphere as you kayak down the Zenne. The traces of old industry are still visible, which has its own charm!

Along the way, there are also some obstacles that should definitely be mentioned. In Tubize, for example, there is a scaffolding under a bridge, making it impossible to paddle through. You have to get out briefly and re-enter after this scaffolding. Still on the French-speaking side of the language border, some concrete blocks protrude into the water; at low water levels, you need to get out there. Upon arriving in Lembeek, you come to a lock where you must get out on the left side in time and be very careful. You take the kayak out of the water, cross the road, and continue along the left bank of the Zenne until you see a spot where you are sure you can get in. A few hundred meters later, you pass the company Pacapime; this is the first building you see after the transition in Lembeek. Here you must be very attentive and get out to the right, as the company has created a waterfall that is impossible to paddle down with the kayak. Once you are safely next to the building, you must follow this building and continue through the company's premises (with prior permission). There you can climb over a yellow balustrade and back down to the Zenne onto a beautiful stone slab. From here, you can continue all the way to Halle. The last danger on the way to Halle only occurs with high water. Due to the old industry, some pipes still hang over the Zenne, and passing through there is difficult and dangerous at high water!

Finally, you arrive at the city park in Halle. There, you will have to do some climbing and scrambling to get the kayak out of the water. But that completes the adventure!

This route is not recommended for beginners due to the adventurous nature of the course and a number of risks that should not be underestimated. Only start if you can adequately assess these risks. We completed this route under the guidance of the outdoor company The Shelter, which has a lot of experience in canoeing.

This route was traveled thanks to the cooperation of ONAK, who took care of our canoes. ONAK specializes in designing foldable canoes. Want to go out on the water on weekends or trips with your own canoe while living compactly and having no space to store a huge canoe? ONAK makes it possible!
