On the former vagrants' colony is one of the largest penal institutions in Belgium. Around this building complex, you can still find supervisor residences, a farm, a small school, and a vagrants' chapel - with a prison museum. The main buildings and the landscape are protected. The area is approximately 600 hectares in size. An imposing ditch, dug by the vagrants in 1896, surrounds the area and was meant to prevent escape attempts.
