Forests and fields around Averbode

The walk starts at the church of Veerle-Heide (Laakdal) in the province of Antwerp. It is 15 km long and almost everywhere flat in a beautiful quiet wooded area between Veerle-Heide and Averbode. It is divided in such a way that it can possibly be closed after 10 km.

You leave along the Zandstraat but just past the community center you turn left.
Then you walk for about 5 km through the soothing Averbode forest until you arrive in the Mariapark.
You will pass several stations of the Stations of the Cross at the abbey of Averbode.You cross them and leave them on the other side to arrive back through forests and meadows in Veerle-Heide.

You can walk straight on to the church and then you have a walk of 10 km behind you.

You can also follow the route and turn left. You then explore more the meadow and field area. Past the nun's farm and the Rode Laak you eventually return to the church of Veerle-Heide via the Zandstraat.

Near the abbey of Averbode you also have the recreation park De Vijvers, a child-friendly amusement park with a wide range of recreational opportunities. The famous 'ice cream drive' will certainly appeal to you.
