Eifelsteig - Stage 2 from Roetgen to Monschau

You leave the tranquil Roetgen behind you and cross the Vennbahn route before setting foot in a German exclave. A little further on, you leave Germany behind for the majority of the hike and get to know the moorland landscape of the High Fens in Belgium. Although the hike does not follow the classic wooden paths, you walk through the tough and wild-growing landscape of the fens behind the remnants of the former Reinarthof and even pass by two typical Veenkruizen, which usually commemorate fatal events.

About halfway through the hike, the Steling shelter invites you to take a break, where you can catch one last glimpse of the High Fens. Hardly have you left Belgium behind when you arrive at the legendary resting place of Charlemagne. The large stone is called "Emperor Charlemagne's Bed." Here he rested while hunting.

At the end of the stage, you have one last chance to learn a little more about the exciting history of the Vennbahn before continuing to the so-called Pearl of the Eifel.
