At the passage of the second part of the forest, a (new) small loop has been added that goes over a bridge across the Gondebeek. Be careful there; during a wet period, one may need boots past the wooden bridge. In the first part of the forest, the boardwalks have been renewed, which is nice from the organization.

The Aelmoeseneiebos is an old forest that has been described on maps or topographic charts since 1775. The forest is cut in two by the railway line from Ghent to Geraardsbergen, making one half in the territory of Melle (Gontrode) and the other in the territory of Oosterzele (Landskouter). Since 1968, there has been an outdoor laboratory in the Landskouter part where research is conducted on the health status of forests due to the effects of air pollution. At the passage of the second part, the side of Gontrode, you can briefly leave the path to spot a diversity of trees. After about 5 km, we will deviate from the route to see the site of the air force base of the Zeppelin. Afterwards, we pass by the test fields of the Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research (ILVO)

Parking and departing at the station of Gontrode, Stationswegel. First, go over the tracks towards Oosterzele for part 1 of the Aelmoeseneiebos.
