The district of Vlezenbeek belongs to Sint-Pieters-Leeuw since 1 January 1977 and had 3312 inhabitants in 2003. Over the centuries, the name of the place has had different spellings such as 'Vlesembeca (1211), Vlesenbeke (1280), Vlazenbeke and Vlezembeek (15th century), but still refers to 'Vleze'. This stream rises on the Merselborre, after which it winds through the village basin, separates the merged commune into 2 striking parts and flows into the Zobbroekbeek. Vlezenbeek and Saint-Pierre-leuw have a long common history. The two municipalities first belonged to the Leeuwse estate, then to the "Land van Gaasbeek". In 1687, however, Sint-Pieters-Leeuw passed into the hands of Jan Karel Roose. In the last quarter of the 17th century, Vlezenbeek changed L'Escornet and Louis-Alexander Schockaert. Vlezenbeek remained closely associated with Gaasbeek until the end of the Ancien Régime. From the Middle Ages, it was exploited by agriculture and was inhabited by gentlemen farmers and agricultural workers or "cossates". Orchards, strawberry plants and remarkable farms are still the assets of our rural district. Vlezenbeek is located between Anderlecht and Gaasbeek and can be described as a "green door to Pajottenland".
