Attention! The castle will undergo a thorough renovation in 2020. In preparation for this renovation, the construction of a dam around the castle will start on 15 June.
Brasserie Wagenhuys will remain open during the works. From 2 July, the visitor centre at the castle will also be open again.

The castle is temporarily closed due to restoration.

The Broekemwandeling has everything to captivate every hiker: heritage with the Castle of Horst, a picturesque Sint-Jozefskapelletje, unpaved and / or hollow roads, views, a babbling stream, a water mill, the Troostemberg hiking forest and the Thunenhoeve with its rich history.

You can't look next to the Galgekapelletje (also Sint-Jozefkapelletje). It stands a little higher in the middle of a field. Right here once stood a gallows. In summer the gallows could still hide somewhat under the foliage of the linden tree, but in late autumn and winter the face must have been particularly ugly. By the way, not everyone has left the gallows area: in December 2005, we recorded the story of a witness who saw five dancing angels around a figure dressed in black on a winter morning. Was it a hanged man or was it the executioner? This place also plays a role in the fictional world of comics. In the 'Prince of Darkness' (The Red Knight, album 43), an attack on Horst is prepared here under the leadership of Demoniah. It is also here that Demoniah enters into a fight with Gillis.
