The Marum in the breeding season, Groot Schietveld and Ginhoven Owl Path

The Marum (± 315 ha) is the northernmost part of the Groot Schietveld and lies to the left of the Kampweg towards Brecht and has been military domain since the 1890s. The area was until recently a safety zone for shooting exercises up to 7,000 meters and thus not accessible to the public. In the current military use, this safety zone is no longer necessary. The Marum can therefore be opened as a safe walking zone, even at times when military activities are taking place in the rest of the Groot Schietveld.
In October 2010, a beautiful nature area was opened for walkers. The Marum is the part of the large shooting field on the left side of the road to Brecht. It was closed to the public for more than a century because it was used as a training ground for the military. Now the army no longer needs the area, and the beautiful, untouched nature area has been opened for walkers.

ANB (Agency for Nature and Forest) has constructed and signposted some walking paths. The yellow route runs through the area, while the red route follows the perimeter of the Marum. Due to the vulnerability of the area (with many rare birds and amphibians), there are significant restrictions for walkers. In the inner area (yellow walk), dogs are always prohibited (even on a leash) and walking is not allowed during the breeding season from mid-March to mid-June.
