River park- Meuse valley-Leut

This year (2021) the long-distance walk in the River Park Maasvallei can crown itself the winner. The walk was extended in 2020. It is now a walk of 137 kilometers, along both banks of the Grensmaas. The charming center of Leut, the windmill, Maas floodplains, and the Maesbempdergreend nature reserve make this loop a particularly varied walk.

Maasbempder Greend is a nature reserve east of Eisden and Vucht, belonging to Rivierpark Maasvallei. The area consists of a large gravel lake that is located in the floodplain east of the Meuse. The banks of this lake were transformed into a varied nature reserve. The area is grazed by large grazers (galloway cattle and konink horses). In 2010, nv De Scheepvaart realised a secondary channel near Mazenhoven. At high water levels, Meuse water flows through to the lake.

The orange walking loop in the Leut hiking area combines the best of both: both nature and culture are extensively discussed during the walk. You walk through the village center and through the castle park of Vilain XIIII to the Meuse. A little further on you will discover the beautiful nature in the nature reserves Maesbempder Greend and Mazenhoven. Do you have some time to spare? In addition, in this walking area you will find an extensive variety of landscape elements such as hedges, old dike bodies and orchards. The combination of nature and culture make this hiking area a gem to explore on foot.
