The Heidemeersen is a special and valuable nature area between the village centers of Berlare and Wichelen. In addition to the Heidemeersen, there is also the Hogeberg (a silted area with sand dunes), Riet-atol (spotting various water birds, ducks, and geese), nature reserve the horse meadow (a controlled flood area of the Scheldt with an overflow dike of 2.8 km) and the Riekend Rest Point (the smallest museum in East Flanders about the transport of manure and beer over water from city to countryside from the 17th to the 19th century). Parking and departure in the Brugstraat, Berlare (side street of the Brugstraat just at the bridge of Berlare).
It can also be walked with junctions: 55>56>43>44>20>21>19>47>51>46>49. If you want to walk on paved paths, then take the towpath>48. If you want to walk off-road, first turn left, and after 50 meters further right down the embankment and at the intersection continue walking right (you will pass junction 18 in the meantime) until you reach the bend where the embankment rises to go to junction 16 (Riekend Rest Point). You walk parallel to the towpath for a while, but for those with dogs, it’s much more fun. >18>16 briefly turn right, there is a rest bench at the Riekend Rest Point museum. >17>52>50 here you simply cross the towpath and go down the embankment so that you can continue walking off-road to the right >45>54>53>55. Junction 55 (the start) is located at the corner of Brugstraat and the towpath and 56 is at the corner of Brugstraat and the main road also called Brugstraat)

There are two more distances: Red (4.3 km) junctions 55>53>52>50>54>45>44>43>56>55 and Blue (8.5 km) junctions 55>53>54>50>49>46>51>47>19>18>16>17>52>53>55.
