Wandelommetje 1, the Cemetery Walk in Assebroek takes us to the Bruges central cemetery and makes a loop along a stretch by the Bruges - Ghent canal.

Having been a West Fleming since 1968 and living in Loppem since 1972, I am almost ashamed to admit that I have never visited the 'Bruges Central Cemetery'.

This little walk, I knew the Brugeoise lay; was uncharted territory for me and it was definitely worth the effort.

I admit, I may have passed by it a few hundred times, without noticing the cemetery, or was it perhaps a 'difficult' place for me?

Not familiar with the area? Then this is the right place for a 'little walk'!

Bruges is world-famous, but the neighborhoods of Bruges are still uncharted territory for many. This bike route and little walks highlight numerous hidden spots. And that is no coincidence... The Uitwijken caravan of Brugge Plus has been bringing culture to special places in the neighborhoods for ten years. In 2020, the Bruges countryside will also reveal its hidden side. The hands were virtually joined together with this map as the result. A bike ride of no less than 78 km links the locations together. You can also shorten the trip and choose one of the three smaller loops of 33, 21, or 29 km. In addition, there are five little walks of about 1.5 to 3 km where you can discover surprising places and their story.

Uitwijken, in collaboration with Westtoer, created a bike and walking map in honor of their 10th anniversary.

In three cycling loops, you will discover the suburbs of Bruges. A journey with beautiful parks, architectural masterpieces, fairy-tale canals, and grand harbor views. You cycle through a varied landscape with canals, polders, forests, castles, small villages…

Along the bike route, five little walks were mapped out. Short walks between 1.5km and 3km where you deviate from the beaten paths and truly explore. The walks lead you to hidden spots with stories that are even a surprise for true Bruggelingen.
