Off to the east! To East Belgium, to Eupen-Malmedy, to the Belgian East Cantons in the Province of Liège. We cycle from Liège to and around the Hautes Fagnes, the highest area in Belgium. We cycle, flirting with the Eifel, a part of the Vennbahn, one of the most beautiful cycling routes in Europe.
The Hautes Fagnes lie on a plateau, mostly in the Ardennes. They are bordered to the south by Malmedy, to the east by the German Monschau, and to the north by Eupen. Our northernmost point is Plombières, Bleiberg in German, Blieberg in Dutch.
Along the border area with Germany with its history of a mini-state, through the Land of Herve, on the RAVel ligne38, via the Fort of Battice and the pear syrup of Sirop de Liège, we complete the loop in Liège, the starting point of the first stage.
