The core of Moenebroek is formed by a wet alder forest with several springs and a large number of seepage zones. During a rainy period, hiking shoes are sometimes not enough, but boots are. Only the black alder can survive in a wet soil. Cowslip, primrose, and gold of pleasure provide a yellow spring bloom. Here we follow the red arrows of Natuurpunt, but we will deviate from the route for a piece of the blue route that runs through Moenebroek, which can be muddy with several cm of water during a rainy period. Parking is available at the square by the monument of the crashed Lancaster at the intersection of Moenebroekstraat and Moorhofstraat, Lierde (Geraardsbergen).
