Ver-Assebroek

This walk around the Bruges agglomeration offers you plenty of peace. You start in Ver-Assebroek for a tour through the Assebroekse Meersen. The relatively closed landscape with rows of poplars and pollarded willows, as well as small forest areas, appears charming. Some drainage ditches save you the inconvenience of wet feet. You enjoy the tranquility along the canal from Ghent to Bruges. You return via the Beverhoutsveld, a moor and wetland that was only developed in the 19th century.
STARTING POINT
You can reach the church of Ver-Assebroek by taking the N337 towards Oedelem/Knesselare on the Bruges inner ring. After 2 km, turn right into Kerklaan directly before a chapel. You can also exit the E40 at exit 10-Beernem and drive into the center of Beernem. At the roundabout near the church, take the left path to Bruges. 5 km later, you reach the N337 to Bruges. Another 2.5 km further, you reach the built-up area of Assebroek, and another 300 m further (chapel on the left side), turn left into Kerklaan.

TYPE OF ROAD
Gravel, earth, and low-traffic asphalt roads, a long section of gravel road and dirt path along the Ghent-Bruges canal; a few hundred meters along a busier road.
ACCESSIBILITY
Impossible for strollers and wheelchairs.
