This route offers an excellent opportunity to explore the entire Antwerp harbor area on the right bank of the Scheldt. Partly along the Scheldt to the border with the Netherlands, partly along nature reserves and polder villages such as Zandvliet and Berendrecht.
You will pass both container terminals and chemical companies as well as other businesses handling heavy cargo. The port has about twenty docks, several bridges, and seven locks.
The area also exudes a piece of history at Fort Lillo, the only remaining part of the village Lillo. The fort is still a silent witness – although this place attracts many tourists in the summer – of the rebellious Antwerp during the Eighty Years' War between the Republic (of the Netherlands) and Spain.
