Melle - between 2 railways

The 6km walk starts at Kouterslag. There is plenty of parking space here.
You begin the walk along the railway line from Ghent to Wetteren and enter the Kouterslag recreation area. Here you can play tennis, skate, and enjoy the playground. Past the playground, there is another parking lot; here you turn left along the football fields with ugly wire fencing. On the paved road, you first turn right then left under a railway tunnel (for cyclists and walkers only).

Immediately after the tunnel, you turn right along a muddy path alongside the railway. At the end of this path, there is another railway underpass. You go through here.

On the other side of the railway, you continue on an unpaved road to the left. A bunker is hidden further on beneath the railway embankment. But there are still two more bunkers to come. At the next railway underpass, you briefly walk away from the tunnel into Geertbosstraat towards the highway. Then you take the first unpaved path to the left. Not much later, you can go through a narrow railway tunnel (for low tractors only) into the area between the two railway lines. Only after the third track do you turn right.

Time to explore the castle domain De Bueren. You walk along beautiful avenues in a woody environment. Here you can discover beautiful elf benches on some trees.

At the intersection with a beautiful view of the castle, you turn left. You walk along the castle moat. At the end of this path, you turn right into Geerbosstraat. Here too, you continue walking alongside the castle moat and see a small lake a little further on the left. You walk around the lake. At a coach house by the lake, you turn right into Kouterwegel. A tractor lock prevents motorized traffic.

For a short distance, you do the same stretch as on the outbound journey, but now you follow the road along the railway.
