Zandbergen is one of the many small picturesque villages that are part of Geraardsbergen as well as Waarbeke and Grimminge that we pass through. In Zandbergen lives one of the four oldest still flourishing noble families of Belgium, the House of Lalaing (the castle domain is located behind the church), which was first mentioned around 1133. Art by Jacques de Lalaing (1858-1917), a family member, can be found throughout the country with grand sculptures and paintings. In the church of Zandbergen hangs the painting 'Flight into Egypt'. A second painter, born and raised in Zandbergen, was Jan De Cooman (1893-1949) who became known for his paintings and etchings both within and outside of Flanders. The Stations of the Cross in the church of Zandbergen were painted by Jan De Cooman.

The walk takes you along unpaved field paths and hardened trails in a gently rolling natural landscape. Park and start at the church of Zandbergen, Zandbergenplein.
