Description by the author

With this walk you literally and figuratively follow the footsteps of Napoleon and Wellington on the battlefield of Waterloo. Most people run here to the highlight of this area: the Lion of Waterloo and the accompanying beautiful museum and Panorama. I certainly recommend that you visit it too, but you will understand so much more if you first discover the surroundings of the battlefield of Waterloo. With this route we start a bit outside the tourist bustle. We start near the monument of Victor Hugo. He also came here to see the famous battlefield. The trajectory takes you first through the open hilly countryside well chosen by Wellington to plan his battle against Napoleon's troops. The area is very popular with walkers and cyclists and you will soon understand why. Via car-free paths you will be presented with beautiful landscapes in a unique historical setting that belongs to our world history. Before you reach the famous hill you step past a monastery where a musical world hit was written. Warning. If you listen to it, you won't get it out of your mind for the rest of the walk . You get to the highlight at about 2/3 of the route. You can also rest there for a while and then step through the lines of the English, back to your starting spot.
