Fascinating Betekom. Jenever, nature and heritage between church and Demer

Betekom has it all: an interesting heritage, beautiful nature and a special agricultural history. Did you know that six tons of asparagus were once marketed here every day? That 'Templar' was just one of the many beers of the four breweries. That gin is still 'fired' today? We walk from culture into the nature of the Beemden, stories of the rich Demer past, but also reflect on the Sigma plan. Fascinating Betekom is knowing better.
This walking route of less than eight kilometers leads us along easy, mostly quiet roads through a beautiful meadow landscape and along the Demerdijk south of the village, but it also introduces us to interesting heritage. We have tried to keep the presentation lively, without unnecessary jargon with which the 'immovable heritage' is already described. We hope this invites you to look and maybe discover. Take your time.
Actually, you can do the walk in all seasons, but if we still want to indicate a top moment, then the period May – June seems optimal to us. The shades of green are at their most beautiful and the floral splendor fresh and abundant.
The total distance is 7.32 km. The road is flat, mostly paved, but then also passable in rainy weather. Catering of all kinds is abundantly present on the village square and there is also a pleasant opportunity along the way. If you are interested in local products: then you will find the oldest still existing 'liqueur factory' in hageland on the village square.
