Description by the author

Softly rolling, winding roads with splendid views, field crosses, chapels, and a healing spring between Saint-Hubert and Libramont-Chevigny.

Text and photos Stan Verelst

Meeting at the Eglise Saint-Roch (V), at the intersection of the Chemin de l’Ourthe and the Voie du Paradis in Neuville. Depart with the church on your left, heading towards Remagne. At the first split, turn right, onto the Chemin du Bois de l’Aune, towards Remagne and Rondu. Ignore the side streets, cross the Ruisseau de la Chapelle and climb out of the village. You ride past the end of the Neuville urban area sign and cycle along the wide concrete road with beautiful views, ignoring the side roads. ● Cycle along the urban area sign of Rondu until you reach the split, where you can turn right towards Remagne. Cycle past the 17th-century Saint-Etienne church with the walled cemetery of Rondu and then turn, just before the Montagne Saint-Antoine, at the chapelle Notre-Dame de la Salette (1) uphill left, towards Remagne. Continue cycling until you reach a brick chapel next to a field cross and turn right into the Voie de Tillet. After a field cross on the left, you come to a split before a small grove. ● Diagonally left and at the next junction, turn right through the open agricultural landscape until you reach the T-junction, with a field cross on the right with the Blessed Lord, under a few trees. Left between the meadows to the center of Remagne. At the small intersection, make a left-right bend and cycle right past the Saint-Etienne church of Remagne and further past the end of the Remagne urban area sign. Bend with the road right and continue cycling along the edge of the forest on the right and the Ourthe Occidentale on the left.

Oxygen therapy

You cycle past the urban area sign of Moircy and come out onto another road. Bend left, along the Rue de Lorette, cross the Western Ourthe and cycle at the intersection with the priority road to the right. At the T-junction, make a left-right bend and cycle right until you reach the T-junction with the chapel, next to an information board about the Bataille de Moircy, during the Ardennes Offensive, late 1944. ● Left and continue along the Rue de Vesqueville to the right. Ignore a road on the left and climb past the Chapelle Notre-Dame de Banneux and the end of the Moircy urban area sign, further into the forest. After an oxygen therapy of about three kilometers, take the first road after the forest, left and cycle between the meadows, towards Vesqueville. Then take the first road, with a chapel on the corner, left and continue over a poorly maintained road, following it until the end. Right and at the junction with the natural stone chapel, left into the winding road, which is not treated in winter.

Miraculous spring

You cycle between the meadows, along the edge of the forest and a bit through it, ignore the side roads and ride past the historic Chapelle de Lhommal (2), with the 'miraculous' spring on the other side of the road. ● At the end of the road, left, along a brick chapel in the meadow and the urban area sign of Bras-Haut. At the split with the Croix de la Haute Bras, turn right, towards Bras-Bas. Cross two small intersections to the right and ignore the side roads further. ● You roll past the urban area sign of Bras-Bas, cycle past the small square that serves as a traffic calming measure, ignore a road on the right and continue until you reach the junction with the cross with the Blessed Lord. Left and then the first street, with the chapel on the corner, right, into the Chemin du Golo. Ignore a street on the right and the road becomes narrower. Continue cycling through the open landscape until you can turn into the first asphalt road on the left. A narrow road with a 360° panorama. ● At the end of the road, turn right. Ignore the side roads and continue through the impressive meadow landscape until the junction with the chapel. Left, along the urban area sign of Séviscourt until you reach the T-junction. Right. After a field cross on the right and a left bend, you will see the church of Séviscourt directly in front of you. Right, towards Libramont, through the Rue des Ecoles. ● Cross the priority road to the right and continue towards Ourt. You begin a climb on a wide asphalt road. Ignore the side roads, cycle a bit through the forest and then, at the five-way junction, take the descending road to the right, to the left of the small grove. Keep ignoring the side roads and continue cycling past the urban area sign of Ourt until the junction, with the church of Ourt on the right. Right, towards Sberchamps and Neufchâteau. Fond Djèvrê is the name of the street. You first cycle between scattered buildings and then between the meadows and past the end of the urban area sign of Ourt.

Christmas tree nursery

You ride under a railway bridge and continue cycling through the open meadow landscape. ● Ignore the side roads and turn right at the junction, towards Sberchamps and Neufchâteau. Continue cycling between fields, meadows, and along the edge of the forest. After a right turn, take the hairpin left and continue cycling past a Christmas tree nursery and through the forest and between the fields. You arrive at the old railway bed (now Pré-RAVeL - line 163).
// Possible alternative
Follow the Pré-RAVeL right and rejoin our route in Wideumont-Gare. The ride then becomes 1 km shorter. Recommended only when the pré-RAVeL is paved. //
Since we prefer beautiful views, cross the old railway bed to the right and then immediately turn right between the meadows and along the urban area sign of Bernimont to the T-junction. Right between the scattered buildings and then into the first street left. On the corner in the hedge, there is a field cross. Cycle past the end of the urban area sign of Bernimont and ignore the road on the right, which dives under the railway bridge. Continue until the first junction. ● Right between the meadows with beautiful views, along the edge of the forest and a bit through the forest. Cross the old railway bed again and continue past the triangular square until the T-junction. Left, along the urban area sign of Wideumont-Gare and Les Elphes, a modern care center for people with disabilities. Continue cycling until you reach the Pré-RAVeL with the former station of Wideumont (3) on the left and follow the railway bed to the right. ● Cross a junction with unpaved field roads to the right and continue until the junction between the rock blocks, with an information board in the three languages, on the edge of the sustainably managed forest. Left, over a narrow asphalt road, winding between the meadows with a splendid panorama ahead of you. At the end of the road, left, until the intersection with the church of Neuville.
