Train walk Voorkempen 02: Heath - Kalmthoutse Heath - Kalmthout

The Kalmthout Heath is an ideal hiking destination to reach by train: along the nature reserve runs a train line with no less than four stations just a stone's throw from the hiking area. It has a junction network and continues over the Dutch border.

The Kalmthout Heath Border Park is about 60 km² in size, the area of two average municipalities, and has enormous diversity. Vast, unspoiled landscapes of heath, pools, dunes, forests, meadows, and polders alternate with each other. Rare plants and animals live there in complete peace.

Our hiking route starts at Heide station (junction 19), meanders 17 km through the Border Park, and ends at Kalmthout station (junction 95). It follows two-thirds via hiking junctions, including some Dutch ones. From Heide station, you follow the junctions 19-18-10-11-13-14-15-26-25-41. At junction 41, you leave the junctions and follow another route to junction 64. From there, you follow 64-70-1-2-68-69-71-97-95.
