The Mechels Broek is a beautiful nature reserve in Muizen, a district of Mechelen. The wetland is part of the natural floodplain of the Dijle. It serves as a sanctuary and resting place for many water birds. The storks from Planckendael also feel completely at home in this wet area. Boots or sturdy footwear are recommended here during wet periods.
The Barebeek valley offers a wide landscape full of variety. Here you can quietly discover why the storks from Planckendael find their food in these moist meadows.
This walk combines 2 walks in the Mechelen river area: the AS-adventure walking route in the Mechels Broek (5.5 km) and the green route in Barebeek valley (4.5 km).
