Description by the author

Cross through the Brussels Region and discover water in all its forms.

Also discover the actors and operators in the water sector through some projects for which they are responsible and some ongoing projects for the enhancement of this resource in the city.

From the Sewer Museum, you will discover the newly designed Fontainas Square with its rainwater management and the Zenne Park located above the covered riverbed in the Masui neighborhood. This route will then lead you to the Noord wastewater treatment plant and the site for exposing a part of the Zenne*, after crossing the Moeraske – the only marshland in the valley that has been preserved today and forms a beautiful nature reserve, rich in flora and fauna. As you drive back to the city along the canal – where you may spot great cormorants, herons, or wagtails – you can follow a very pleasant stretch of the Green Walk through Sobieski Park and King Baudouin Park, via the Jette Marsh and the Sijsjes Pond, back to the Sewer Museum. If you plan this trip on March 20, allow some time for this last stop. The museum will come out that day with fun and varied activities.

* A few dozen minutes from the Van Praet Bridge, near the Budabrug, work is being done in 2021 to reopen a part of the Zenne just behind the Noord wastewater treatment plant. Unfortunately, this part of the Zenne is not yet open to the public and is difficult to see from the road. Nevertheless, you can discover this impressive achievement thanks to the time-lapse that has been made throughout the construction period via the link available in the application, as well as the video about the operation of the treatment plant (by clicking on these highlights).

This walk is presented by Leefmilieu Brussel, in collaboration with Hydria and Vivaqua.
