The walk takes you along paved roads, 'cycling and walking through the water' in Bokrijk, and lets you discover a large part of the domain. Eventually, you will return to the children's farm of Kiewit with various animals and a small playground.

Directions:

You leave the parking lot and go to the right; after the chapel marked 'V.K.S.J', turn right again at the end.

Be careful: cross 'Kiewitstraat' (crosswalk) and continue straight on 'Grootboomstraat' until the end. Turn left onto 'Nieuwe-Heidestraat' until past the 3 red posts on the road.

In 'Genk', take the immediate diagonal path to the right, to the end, and then turn left.

With some luck, you might see a heron or cormorant here, at the last ponds on the left or right!

Be careful: from now on, you are on the cycling route network!

There is no law that obliges pedestrians to walk on the right side of the road, unless there is a round blue traffic sign showing a bicycle, a vertical line in the middle, and a person. It is safer to walk in single file, on the left side of the road, so you can see cyclists coming.

The passage through the water is recently one-way due to the crowds on certain days. Detour = 650 meters!

Normally, you see here, alongside various types of ducks and other water birds, a pair of white swans, with young ones that have brown/grey feathers until the summer. At the end, turn right, until you reach a white house, turn right again, until the end.

In the corner to the left, you can enter the 'arboretum' through a small gate.

Immediately turn left and follow the white arrows on the black poles.

Every week there are flowers, plants, and trees with a different color!

At the exit, take the large avenue towards the 'castle', at the end turn left.

Also, if the 'Koetshuis' hospitality is closed due to corona, there are free toilets across the road.

If desired, during the winter months you can enter the 'open-air museum' for a guided tour of 4 km (> 1 hour), although the more than 100 'historical houses' are closed, except for the bakery 'Egt' and the sanitary facilities.

From May 1, access is charged, but then everything is accessible, with Bokrijk actors, demonstrations, and the Bruegel game.

You start via the diagonal path to the right (between the museum entrance and the grassland),

At the end, turn left (the 'arboretum' will then be to your right).

At the end, turn right until the white house, and then turn left.

Go back past 'through the water' and the pond (200 meters) where there is a small info point with a beautiful view over the water on the left.

Continue along the path and go back past the 3 red posts, turn right (concrete path) towards 'Hasselt'.

Follow and at the end, be careful again: cross 'Kiewitstraat' and continue straight.

With some luck, you will see dozens of black Galloway cattle in the large meadow or in the forest on the right. On the left, you might see a white horse and 6 donkeys in the meadow.

Turn left, towards the buildings of the 'children's farm'.

Along the way, there are various animal species: rabbits, sheep, kids, etc., and 2 or more pigs (behind the bee house).

Also, if the hospitality 'Koe-vert' is closed due to corona, there are free toilets here.

Past the playground and the visitor center of Natuurpunt, turn left, back towards the parking lot.
