Grimberse chapel walk

Suggestion route on the walking network of Brabantse Kouters. The junctions of this walk are not signposted on the ground, walk with the walking junction app or follow the thematic hexagonal signs.

Walk back in time, step over field paths and bring the agricultural past back to life.

Pass the many chapels, such as the St. Servatius Chapel in Art Deco style, the sober neoclassical Veldkant Chapel, and the oldest Wezenhaag Chapel, which illustrate the popular devotion of the time.

The Veldkant Chapel is a large neo-Gothic chapel on the Grote Kerkvoetweg in Grimbergen. This is the path along which the residents of Heienbeek used to walk to church when this hamlet did not yet have a church. It is the largest chapel in Grimbergen and is dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes.
The Veldkant Chapel was established in 1872 or 1878 by the family J. B. Luypaert-Potens in gratitude for a healing obtained. In 1883, it was enlarged at the request of the De Nayer-Leemans family from Vilvoorde in gratitude for the healing of their daughter. In 1902, Count Cornet de Peissant had a small grotto made in the chapel where he placed a statue of Our Lady that he brought from Lourdes.
