The Brakel Forest and the Livierenbo have uninterruptedly formed the border between Flanders and Hainaut since the 11th century. The historical significance of these forests becomes even greater when one considers that they were much earlier an important factor in the formation of the language border. Finally, these wooded hills were inhabited thousands of years ago by groups of prehistoric peoples. For these reasons, and of course due to their current tourist appeal, this path, which offers much more than just forests, has been named the “Tweebossenpad.”
