This walk is a fusion of 'Oudenaarde: nature point: Lange Meersen' and Wortegem-Petegem: 'Old castle parks' for walkers looking for a few more kilometers. You walk through the Lange Meersen area with its hay meadows along the Scheldt bank, not via the towpath but the lower-lying field paths. Then some castle domains such as the Het Anker estate, an old Scheldt meander at the castle of Petegem where the Golf & Country club has its grounds and clubhouse, and the Ghellinck castle domain, now a public park. An extra golf tip: when walking along the golf course and you hear 'FORE' shouted loudly, it means that a golf ball is going the wrong way (or towards you), so you should make yourself as small as possible and protect your head.
