Forests and panoramas in the Meuse Valley at Seilles (Andenne)

This walk takes you from the station of Andenne along the wooded hills of the Meuse over the open Haspengouw plateau and through the stonecutter hamlets Poilsart and Tramaka. You depart and arrive at the station of Seilles (Andenne). It is an ideal ‘train walker’ that is easily accessible. From the main connections Liège and Namur there are smooth and frequent lines to Andenne, even during the weekend.

The first kilometer to the hamlet of Tramaka runs along a fairly busy road, but then you turn right and shortly after, the picturesque forest path begins. Be careful not to miss the entrance. The next two kilometers, you climb through the forest ‘Bois Royal de Siroux’ along the Meuse slope. It is a lightly mixed forest with oaks, birches, and pines. Especially in spring, from April to May, the ground is covered with numerous species of spring bloomers, among which is abundantly the fairly rare spring helmet flower. You rarely encounter hikers, but during the weekend the slope is visited by mountain bikers.
The next three kilometers run over the gently rolling open plateau, providing a broad view of the surroundings. In the distance, you can see the villages Landenne and Velaine. You only pass a single quadrangular farm and a few rural houses placed across the road, built from local hard stone.
Around kilometer ‘6’, you descend from the hamlet of Poilsart to Tramaka, where the simple houses stand side by side, not far from the quarries where the workers toiled long days. Along the picturesque chapel ‘Notre Dame du Bon Secours’, you ascend the slope again, pass a small vineyard, and descend through the forest. At kilometer ‘8’ you return to the residential neighborhoods of Seilles. Be careful, take the small footpath behind the houses here.
Three hundred meters before the station, where Rue de le Justice begins, you will see at the corner with Rue du Parc a beautiful ensemble of houses with colored brick accents and a touch of art nouveau. The row is completed by the modern Protestant church.

About the route
The forest paths can still be quite muddy during rainy periods. The use by mountain bikes does mean that in such cases you may have to make a little jump over a puddle or take a small detour.

Food and drink
There are not immediate opportunities to eat or drink along the route itself. But in Seilles, near the station, and certainly in the center of Andenne, a 10-minute walk away, there are nice places.

If you come by car, there is ample parking near the starting point.

Public transport
As mentioned earlier, the starting point is easily accessible by train.

Tip!
This walk is quite short and easily combined with a city walk or a visit to the city of Andenne. This circular walk is an adjusted and more documented version from the Tourism Office of Andenne, but the tourist office has a lot more to offer.
