GR16 stage 5: Sainte-Cécile to Auby-sur-Semois

Departure from Sainte-Cécile.

This will be a wooded stage with some nice climbs.

Start in the 'Bois de Conques' where we meet the Semois again. Occasionally a bit of scrambling but generally 'boulevards' to walk on.

On the way, you pass the Vanne de Moines where the priests used to come to catch fish, today you are no longer allowed to fish there.

Upon leaving the forest, you come onto the road towards Herbeumont.

After the bridge, turn left into the forest with a steep climb immediately. During the climb, you are rewarded with views of: 1/the old railway bridge 2/the burscht of Herbeumont and 3/the 'grave of the knight'

After that, it is a long flat walk before diving back into the forest towards Mortehan after 2 km.

We chose the variant of the GR to be able to walk via the small ancient cemetery of Mortehan on the banks of the Semois.

From Cugnon, you get a nice view over the rapids of the Semois near the watermill.

Just a bit more climbing to Auby-sur-Semois...where we didn't immediately find a terrace...
