Train walking route Scheldeland: 6. From Temse via Rupelmonde to Hemiksem

TRAIN WALKING ROUTE SCHELDELAND

This walking route makes the Schelde River Park (a future National Park) accessible by train. Each stage begins and ends at a train station or a bus stop with good frequency.

This fifth stage starts at the Temse station and takes you right to the bank of the - already quite powerful here - Schelde. Along a unique dike landscape, you walk to the fort of Steendorp, where you walk all the way around. Through the former clay pits of the brickworks, we reach the Scheldedorp itself. That special riverside atmosphere is distinctly present in the following Rupelmonde, the historic town where the cartographer Mercator was born in 1512. Then it continues through a much more open dike landscape, including the Scandinavian-looking Rupelmondse Kreek, to the ferry at Bazel (check the hours!). On the other side, in Hemiksem, we take a short tour past the Sint-Bernardus Abbey and thus reach the small station.
