Kalkense Meersen is a nature reserve with wet grasslands, wide silence, and pieces of old arms of the Scheldt stretching over Kalken, Overmere, Uitbergen, Schellebelle, and Wetteren. This walk runs along the Kalkense Vaart and Meersen and over the new walking/cycling bridge, the Roerdomp bridge, which has added new paths. Parking is available on Vaartstraat (N407) GPS house number 73, opposite Building Materials De Gelder. You can also walk via junctions with a slight change at the beginning. Junction 16 is located at the beginning of the Kalkense Vaart and you follow 25 but after 100 meters, at the war monument, you turn right into Mennenweg which leads to the new walking bridge, junction 18 >24>23>2>22>21>20>9>10>14>18>18>16. Between junction 22 and 9, you can choose between the towpath or the unpaved field path below, nicer with dogs. Also, at the end, when we are back at the walking bridge, you can choose to go from 18 directly to 16 or take the unpaved path over the bridge from the start.
