Immerse yourself in the spiritual peace of Tongerlo Abbey and get to know the area's Norbertine heritage. The walk starts at the parking lot of Tongerlo Abbey and first takes you along the surrounding avenues to enjoy the impressive exterior view. Via the Oevelsedreef -an authentic norbertine road- you walk into the abbey site. The abbey buildings themselves are not accessible but the imposing courtyard with the church and the Boer War Barn and the da Vinci museum are definitely worth a visit. There you will discover a replica of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper (Opening hours: tongerlo.org). You can visit between 2pm and 5pm: daily from May 1 to September 30 daily during the Easter vacations (except for Good Friday and Easter) every Sunday in March, April and October. We leave the abbey through the main gate at node 1 and while walking through the lane alongside the abbey you can enjoy beautiful views in peace and quiet and pass a typical Lourdes cave. The walk then takes you through the village center of Tongerlo past other Norbertine heritage. On the way to node 344 you pass the Chapel of Our Lady of the Oak with its hedged chapel yard and cemetery -a promise chapel founded in 1640 by the 42nd abbot of Tongerlo after a plague epidemic- now a protected monument and landscape. At node 348 you pass the Ambrosius Farm, a protected brick farmhouse purchased and rebuilt by the abbey in 1718, now privately owned. Just past node
