Wéris

Beautiful walk from the center of Wéri, through the forest along the chapel, with stunning views and lovely walking paths. We also encountered dolmens, animals, and many walkers taking the beautiful different routes, some a little more difficult than others but fully signposted. This was the blue route, very nice to do. There is also a route to the Pierre Haina.

The Pierre Haina, sometimes also called the White Menhir, is a natural rock in the municipality of Durbuy in the Belgian province of Luxembourg. It is one of the legendary stones in the area, alongside the Duivelsbed and the Pas-Bayard.

The rock has a distinctive shape: it rises like a stone pillar above the underlying rock. In this way, the rock forms a natural menhir, but was presumably once worked. The Pierre Haina is located 1.4 kilometers east of the Dolmen of Wéris and a kilometer northeast of the village of Wéris. The rock is situated on a ridge on the eastern side of the valley where Wéris is located. In this valley, there are two dolmens and several other menhirs. The various megaliths in the area would form different alignments that are parallel to each other.[1]

For the megalithic system in the valley, the Pierre Haina was an important sighting point. The prominent elevated rock is clearly visible from several of the megaliths. The rock was whitewashed annually at the equinox, making it even more visible from the surrounding area.

The rock block is about three meters high and is tilted at an angle of 60 degrees.

In the end, it was terrace time (at the museum) which was needed but just a blissful walk was done, really worth it.
