Ravelse history

We start at the neo-Gothic Sint-Servatius church with its tower from the 16th century. Via rural roads, we reach the forests of the Heike. Near junction 76, we find the urn field 'Het Heike', dating back to the early Iron Age (between 800-450 BC). Next, we arrive at the fenced domain of the former NATO munitions depot of Weelde airport. The route continues through alternating forest and agricultural areas. At junction 65, you can take the longer route to junction 64, along the former NATO airfield and alongside ponds and heathland, or take the left turn. Beyond junction 63, in the heath, lies the former Kamp Ravels, a training ground for Dutch troops during the reign of William I. Via agricultural roads, we reach the residential neighborhoods of Ravels to finally return to our starting point. This route was submitted by Karel Lavrijsen.
