At the beautiful Norbertus Abbey (kp 100) there are the famous ice cream carts in the drive. In the summer months you can also go to the lekdreef for a nice ice cream!

The Abbey of Averbode was founded in 1135 on the initiative of Arnold II, Count of Loon.

It was originally a 'double monastery' in which both men and women lived, in the beginning of the 13th century it was definitively 'deduplicated'.

It is an abbey of the Premonstratensians, also called Norbertines or Witheren and has 78 members, 45 of whom live and work in the abbey.

The Gothic gatehouse, built in the second half of the 14th century, is the oldest surviving part.

Nowadays you will find a guest quarter, a local produce shop and a reflection centre in the abbey.

To the left of the abbey is the Maria park with a series of original sculpture groups.
