Malmedy: mysterious forests, a calvary and a pimper nut

If you want to take a fascinating and not too long walk in the immediate vicinity of the city of Malmedy, you are spoilt for choice. The Tourist Office has developed some interesting walks. We opted for a variant of the "Calvary Walk", known as MDY12. However, there is no brochure to find. It's probably on a hiking map. But from the cathedral (Place du Châtelet), it is easy to follow via images with the "red rectangle" and the silhouette of a bird.

The course of just over four kilometers is magnificent. It runs along the slopes of the Rond Thier and the slopes of the Livremont, in a varied and hilly course between coniferous and mixed forests. Interestingly, you pass a few special points. Who knows the unique "pudding stone" geological formation in Belgium? Do you dwell on the stations of the ancient Calvary but beautifully depicted about 100 years ago? And what about the graceful gazebo with panorama? For nature lovers, there are many plates with interesting information about plants planted at the end of the 19th century.

The second part of the promenade runs along the new districts and enters the city through a fascinating division along the old Chodes road and the old flowery shopping streets of Haut-Vaulx and Vaulx. But there are also fascinating things to see along this part of the city road: chapels, kiosks and an ancient city gate.
