We buy a day pass for the lifts and take the Whistler Village Gondola from the village square. This classic 'egg ski lift' takes us along the mountainside of Whistler Mountain to Round House Lodge at an altitude of about 1,800 meters.
From there we start our walk: Pika's Traverse. The special thing about this tour is that we largely walk between huge snow walls. In some places, the snow wall reaches more than five meters high. We have never seen so much snow and certainly not during our summer holidays. At 6°, it's on the fresh side, to say the least.
Along the way, a large inuksuk was built. With a lot of stacked stones are statues made by the original Inuit. The statues indicate a sacred place or indicate imminent danger. Very handy: either you have to stop for a while, or you have to get out quickly.
During this walk we can regularly enjoy a beautiful panoramic view over the mountains. The wide horizon is marked by snow-capped peaks and river-ridden mountain flanks. The views here are really beautiful, especially when the cloud cover breaks open during the day.
