Cham is located on the northern shore of Lake Zug, 5.5 km northwest of the cantonal capital of Zug. Surrounding Cham, Steinhausen is the east, Hünenberg is to the west, Lake Zug is south, and Knonau in the Canton of Zürich is to the north. The town has an area of 19.82 km2 . The train station is located 418 m above sea level and the highest point in town is 468 m above sea level.
The town is located at the mouth of the Lorze river, with two sections located on both sides of the river. Cham also includes a number of smaller villages; Enikon, Lindencham, Friesencham, Hagendorn, Rumentikon, Niederwil, Oberwil and Bibersee.
