Buttwil Airport was built as a replacement for Spreitenbach Airport, which had to give way to the goods station and the ever-expanding Zurich Airport. Initially, it was managed by the Buttwil Airfield Interest Group.
It is primarily used by Eichenberger AG Flight School and Central Helicopter Service AG for flight training on fixed-wing aircraft as well as helicopters. Furthermore, working and cargo flights for mountain and hut supply in the region are undertaken from there.
