The Monte Ceneri transmission tower is a free-standing steel lattice tower above the Monte Ceneri Pass in the municipality of Rivera TI in Ticino. The initially earth-insulated transmission tower was built in 1933 with a height of 120 meters and served as the national transmitter for Italian-speaking Switzerland. In 1978, a new guyed mast was erected for the medium wave transmitter. It retained the old designation of National Transmitter Monte Ceneri, although it is located east of the old site. The Monte Ceneri transmission tower, meanwhile, continued to serve as the basic network transmitter for television. Later, the mast was raised to a height of 135 meters. Today, the site of the transmission mast houses a barracks.
