The Baptismal Cave is located southeast of the municipality of Bäretswil in the Zurich Oberland in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland. In the 16th century, it provided shelter for the followers of the Anabaptist movement.
The cave is situated at an altitude of 910 meters in the forest on a steep slope of the northwestern flank of Allmen, above the hamlet of Wappenswil in Bäretswil, below a powerful horizontally lying conglomerate layer, over which a small waterfall flows, feeding the Bäretswiler Aabach via the Holensteintobel. The cave can be reached in about a quarter of an hour from a small parking lot via a hiking trail. Adjacent to the actual cave on the left is a smaller cave, which extends only a few meters into the mountain. The large cave stretches about 40 meters wide, is approximately 30 meters deep, and about 4 meters high at most. In the front part, there are a few benches set up, and a masonry fireplace is provided. Because the cave floor is dry, youth groups and school classes occasionally spend the night in the cave.
