The Petite Glâne is a 30 km long left tributary of the Broye. It drains a section of the Mittelland of the Romandie, flowing through areas of the cantons of Vaud and Fribourg.
The source of the Petite Glâne is located at the hamlet of Vers le Moulin on the edge of the exclave of Vuissens on the municipal border between Estavayer and Valbroye. It lies at 674 m above sea level in a hollow in the molasse hill country between the valleys of Mentue to the west and Broye to the east. In its upper course, the Petite Glâne flows in a relatively wide valley with a flat floodplain in the canton of Vaud towards the northeast, flanked by the molasse ridges rising up to 150 m higher. However, it soon crosses back into Fribourg territory. Below the village of Granges-de-Vesin, the Bainoz, the most significant tributary of the Petite Glâne, flows in from the left.
