In a triangular shape, bordered to the north by the Rhône plain, and to the west and south by the Dranse. It extends from the Écoteaux, through Surfrête towards Chemin-Dessus, then passes by the Tête des Éconduits, the Col des Planches, reaches its peak at the Crevasse, and then rises towards the Pierre Avoi, through the alpine pastures of the Tronc and the Lein. The lowest point is located at an altitude of 460 meters, at the level of the Rhône plain; in comparison, the bed of the Dranse at Sembrancher is already at 715 meters, Chemin-Dessus is at 1,125 meters, the Col des Planches at 1,411 meters, the Col du Lein at 1,658 meters, and the summit of the Crevasse at 1,808 meters.
Five communes share Mont Chemin. With the hamlet of Chemin-Dessous, Martigny owns the entire northern flank, except for the extreme northeast which belongs to Charrat; Bovernier occupies the western part of the southern flank, except for a small area belonging to Sembrancher; Vollèges holds the rest of the southern flank, as well as the wooded pastures of the ridges. It is also on the territory of this commune that the hamlets of Chemin-Dessus, Vens, Etiez, Cries, Levron and the village of Vollèges are located.
