Dättwil

Dättwil is a village in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. It is located on a lateral moraine between the Reuss valley and the western slopes of the Heitersberg. From 1804, Dättwil formed an independent municipality with the three exclaves of Münzlishausen, Rütihof, and Segelhof. Since 1962, Dättwil has been part of the city of Baden. In 2017, the village had nearly 3,500 inhabitants and is home to numerous industrial and commercial enterprises. In recent decades, Dättwil has experienced significant construction activity. Dättwil should not be confused with the homophonous district of Dätwil in the municipality of Adlikon near Andelfingen in the canton of Zurich.

The area around Dättwil was likely settled as early as the Bronze Age, as evidenced by an axe found during excavations in 1924. Around the 9th century, Alemannic settlers cleared the forest and settled down. The first documentary mention of Tetwiler occurred in 924. The place, consisting of four farms, served as a court site from the 12th century. The jurisdiction for capital punishment lay with the respective local lords; initially, these were the Counts of Lenzburg, from 1173 the Counts of Kyburg, and from 1273 the Habsburgs.
