Riburg is a district of the municipality of Möhlin and also refers to the area located in the Rhine bend between Möhlin and Rheinfelden at an altitude of about 290 to 300 meters above sea level in the district of Rheinfelden in the Swiss canton of Aargau. The former spelling "Ryburg" is still used today by local clubs and residents, as well as in connection with historical topics and in proper names.
The district of Riburg lies north of the Basel-Zürich railway line, which essentially forms the boundary to Untermöhlin. Riburg has its own coat of arms, was not architecturally connected to Möhlin in the past, and held certain autonomous rights. In 1840, Riburg attempted to separate from Möhlin and regain its independence. This endeavor failed as the canton of Aargau refused consent. The rejection of the municipal separation was justified, among other things, by the claim that Riburg as an independent municipality allegedly could not have survived financially. Today, Riburg has completely merged with Möhlin. Nevertheless, the special relationship between Riburg and Möhlin remains present in the minds of the population today. This is particularly evident during the local Fasnacht, where the relationships between Möhlin and Riburg are a popular subject. To the east of Riburg lies the large industrial area of Möhlin. It has access to both the Basel-Zürich railway line and the A3 motorway via an industrial connector.
