Bad Säckingen: Zur Mumpfer Fluh

This cross-border hike leads to a striking ridge with fantastic views.

From the train station, the trail leads to the Rhine and over the historic wooden bridge into Switzerland. After the bridge, a staircase leads to the Rhine and the signpost. Follow the signs towards Mumpf. Yellow diamonds also show you the way in Switzerland. Walk along the redesigned Rhine riverside path to the junction on the left towards Adlertreppe, follow the signs to the railroad station and cross underneath it through the underpass. Follow the signposts uphill along Rütistraße towards Obermumpf to the end of the Stein biotope and hedge nature trail at Stichmatt. Follow a wide path without markings along the Vitaparcour uphill through the forest. At a crossroads there is a beautiful view to the west. Now follow a narrow path, now marked again, partly with steps and hairpin bends, steeply downhill to the next vantage point with far-reaching views of the Rhine bends as far as Basel and the southern heights of the Black Forest. Cross a wooden footbridge to reach the Mumpfer Fluh (510 m), where you can enjoy a magnificent view of Bad Säckingen, the Hotzenwald and the Rhine bends to the east. The kiosk at a large rest area with barbecue is open on Sundays. At the top, the trail leads between meadows and fields to Chatzenfluh and on to Eiker Berg. From there, the descent to Münchwilen follows the yellow markings. You cross under the wide railroad and freeway underpass and continue along the Steiner biotope and hedge nature trail to the wooden bridge and on through Säckingen's old town to the railroad station.
