The walk starts in the centre of Champex-Lac village (1,470m) and is followed by a slight climb on the Adray side, where you will have the benefit of a great view of the lake. Head along the river on a path that goes down to Champex-d’en-Bas. From here, cross the bridge and go back up towards Champex-Lac until you reach the swimming pool just before getting back to the lake.
The route starts in Champex, a village nestled around a magnificent Alpine lake. After a few metres, follow the lake and take the opportunity to admire the reflection of the Grand Combin – which peaks at over 4,400 metres. After a slight ascent at Aldray, you will be greeted by an exceptional view over the lake and the village. Follow the river until you get to the two other villages that make up the resort – Champex d'en Haut and Champex d'en Bas, after which the route leads uphill through a magnificent larch forest. Bike back down towards the lake, doing a circuit in the forest on the other side of the resort before heading north of the lake via the banks of a marsh, which is a protected site of national importance due to its scenic value and many rare animal and plant species.
Visit the botanical garden "Flore-Alpe" and discover the local plants and alpine herbs.
Take the Simplon line to Martigny, and then take the Martigny-Orsières train, changing at Sembrancher. In Orsières, take the bus to Champex-Lac. Find all the information you need for your journey (train and bus) on www.cff.ch.
Take the A9/E62 motorway to Martigny then follow the signs to Grand-Saint-Bernard up to Orsières. For Champex-Lac, drive into Orsières and follow the signs.
At the entrance of the resort (Artillery Fort car park), on the way out of the resort (cable car parking area). Some parking spaces in the centre of the resort.
We recommend: bike in excellent working order, helmet, gloves and bell, clothing suitable for the weather (always carry a waterproof), food and drink.
