Kues is known as the birthplace of 15th-century scholar Nicholas of Cusa. Nicholas of Cusa was a German theologian, philosopher, mathematician, astronomer, humanist and jurist. He is known as the brilliant thinker of the 15th century. He first described the use of concave lenses to correct myopia. And in politics, he developed his own system of weighted elections. In a painting in the hospital Kues, you can still see his image. This was painted by Meister des Marienlebens.
