This theater was also used to hold political meetings. The German history from 1919-1933 is usually referred to as the Weimar Republic, because the constitution of the republic was recorded here. The reason why it was here and not in Berlin was that there were large riots in Berlin in 1918 after World War I. At that time, the city was considered too unsafe to hold parliament there.
